Create your own website

Here we will show you how easy it is to get started with your own website. If you follow these steps you will be out there creating your own website within 10 minutes!

How to create a website – step by step

  1. Get a web host. Before you do anything else you need to find a good web host because you need a server where you can put your site and its content.  All you´ll need is a small web host if your website content doesn´t take up too much space, but if you´re going to have a huge website that requires a lot of space, or if you´re planning on creating a bunch of websites you´ll probably need a bigger host, maybe one with unlimited space.
  2. Buy a domain. You buy your domain from your new web host, which is needed for your website. A domain is basically the same as a domain name, i.e. your URL or web address. If you´re going to have a commercial site you may want to put your site´s most important key words in your web address or create a unique domain name if you want it to stand out. You also have to choose your top-level domain, for example .com, which is the best top-level domain if your target is the American or the international market. If you only target visitors in your own country it’s just as good (or better) to use an internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD), for example .ca if you´re living in Canada or .au if you´re living in Australia.
  3. Install CMS (Content Management System). CMS makes it easy to create your own website. Webhostreviewers.com prefer WordPress because it´s easy to install, easy to use and there’s almost no limit of how much you can customize your website with WordPress. Some web hosts have a one click installer for WordPress, if you just click on it you will have WordPress on your domain within a minute. If your web host doesn’t have a one click installer you can download it from WordPress.org and follow the instructions. If you want to use another CMS we recommend Joomla or osCommerce (for creation of online stores). WordPress, Joomla and osCommerce are free and open-source software.
  4. Create your homepage. Once you have a CMS on your website you can start to customize it so it looks and works just the way you want it to. After you done this it’s time to add the desired content such as texts, pictures and video clips.

Good luck!
